Tsunami warnings for the western Pacific coast.

Taiwan seems to be alright for now, at least. It's scary to realize that 8.8 is about 180 times stronger than the Hanshin quake (7.3), though it seems to be in a more rural area and it's in afternoon (hello midnight earthquakes of Taiwan...), so the main damage isn't coming from the quake. What's really scary is the tsunami that's effecting everywhere right now o__O

What really impresses me is the general attitude the Japanese has towards this catastrophe. Normally I don't actually like the Japanese much (lol surprise), but how their media can remain calm and respectful and everyone's cooperating is just so very impressive, especially compared to Taiwan. (Urgh, the Taiwanese media is AWFUL. Every news station here reports things like they're writing horror stories/movies instead of professionally.) How they're calmly trying to spread the news around news, retweeting information including contact info for Taiwanese without phones and trying to encourage people to speak to foreigners...THAT'S the way to react, Taiwanese government/people.

On a side note (compared to the entire Japan, that is), a small luck is that the quake hit during intermission for SHOCK, which made getting out of the theater easier. This totally reminds me of J-friends, but I'm guessing if Johnnys decides to do something it would be with the younger groups. Still, all this is unimportant for now. Just.

EVERYONE. BE AS SAFE AS POSSIBLE AND GOOD LUCK. ;_____;

edit: according to someone, everyone in Tokyo received a text message saying 'an earthquake will arrive in Tokyo 15 seconds later, please immediately take refuge' before the second/?? wave. once again, impressed by their reaction speed and attitude. o_O

I JUST FINISHED AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER. IN THREE DAYS. ALL 61 EPISODES PLUS CHIBI.

...It's got a solid storyline? I'm not in super!fangirl mode like I get sometimes, but it's making me think a lot. One thing I can't over is the title -- the last airbender. No matter how much the characters might be enjoying themselves or how hopeful the ending is, the title's always there to remind me that there's just something extremely tragic about the story.

It's horrifying seeing the empty air temples, knowing that they'll never be filled again. Minor deaths are just scraps in the grand scheme, but an entire culture was destroyed. Aang's entire culture is gone. It's not even real and yet just thinking about it makes me want to cry.

It's funny how the only episode I actually cried is centered around Appa (a huge furry flying animal) though.

On the most parts, it's just an adventure story with a somewhat predictable plot. But it's also been a while since I've seen any decent adventure story that hasn't disappointed me at some point. It's all I could have wanted out of a good cartoon -- a sturdy story that makes me think even with the childish naivety that in turn gives me hope in humankind.

It also doesn't hurt that Aang is the most charming main character I've seen since...um, Yoh from Shaman King, I guess. I have such a huge thing for wise kids. :D My only complaint is that I wanted to see more of Aang (and his air-bending/glider DDD:) in the third season, but I suppose it would feel wrong to take away the other characters' chances to grow some depth. And Zoku's redemption is amusing on its own merits, though it's a plot I've already seen too often.

I think I need a few more days to take it all in. I'm still not sure what to think because I usually let a brainless fangirl squee lead me in fandoms, but it really figures that it's a cartoon that's making me over-thinking everything.

edit: great. I've already lost sleep over this (61 episodes in 3 days...yeah), and now I can't sleep because I'm thinking about it. and it's four in the morning. splendid.

I love Bedtime Stories so much right now.

I love fairy tales, see. It all comes down to this, after all.

In fact, I loved it so much, I actually went and screencapped like crazy. It's just so pretty. So? Besides the usual rants, there are PICTURES below. Hee.

SUPERNATURAL - [3x05] Bedtime Stories )

And because it has the word 'fairytale' in its title and also because its a lovely tune:
